Welcome to Heep Yunn

Our Chinese school name, ‘United in Grace’, captures the vision of Heep Yunn: we take pride in not only our ability to nurture our students to achieve academic excellence but, most of all, our commitment to instil an extraordinary spirit of unity and service in them.

School Background

Heep Yunn School is an Anglican (Sheng Kung Hui) school established in 1936 when two former C.M.S. (Church Missionary Society) institutions, namely Fairlea (1886) and Victoria Home & Orphanage (1887), were amalgamated.

The name “Heep Yunn” means “United Grace”, reflecting the school founders’ vision to bring quality education to young women and orphans in answer to the call of duty at a time of economic instability and threat of war in 1930s Hong Kong. They believed in empowering students to bring enlightenment to our nation and serve our people. To this day, the school abides by their dedication to serving our fellow men in the love of Christ. In 2012, the school switched its status from a government grant-in-aid school to a direct subsidy scheme school, continuing in its mission to provide equal opportunities for quality and holistic Christian education.

Message from the Headmistress

Thank you for visiting the Heep Yunn School website. We respectfully present the enduring legacy established in 1936 through the amalgamation of Fairlea School and the Victoria Home and Orphanage, both founded by missionaries of the Church Missionary Society of the Church of England in 1886 and 1887 respectively.

Rooted in Christian principles for well over a century, Heep Yunn School is resolutely committed to the cultivation of character strengths in its students — humility and unity; gratitude and fortitude; pragmatism and altruism. These values are succinctly expressed in our school motto:

In strength and grace we stand united

In faith and love we are committed

Since adopting the Direct Subsidy Scheme in 2012, the School has leveraged greater curricular and pedagogical flexibility to enhance educational outcomes. Commencing in 2026, senior-form students will be offered a choice between the established local HKDSE curriculum and an international advanced-level curriculum, enabling alignment of preparation with the admission standards of reputable institutions locally, nationally and internationally.

The Direct Subsidy funding model has also enabled investment in upgraded facilities and an expanded portfolio of programmes and activities designed to promote personal development, widen national and global perspectives, and facilitate the fullest realisation of each student’s potential.

Heep Yunn steadfastly upholds the principle that financial constraint should not bar qualified candidates from attendance. Accordingly, we maintain a compassionate fee‑remission policy for families in financial need and an extensive scholarship scheme recognising excellence in academic, co‑curricular and cultural endeavours. Where fee remission is awarded at or above 50%, the Council of Heep Yunn School, our sponsoring body, may additionally provide assistance towards living expenses.

In summary, Heep Yunn School remains governed by Christian convictions, a continuity testified by generations of alumnae who embody the School’s spirit in their personal and professional lives. We invite you to appraise for yourselves a school that sincerely lives by its professed beliefs.

Now we have, like the trees this Spring woken up to new life and started to put out fresh green leaves. The metaphor of a tree is not inappropriate as our roots go back quite far into the last century. It was in 1886 that Fairlea was bought and that ‘Miss Johnstone’s School’ began to be known by that name and in 1887 that Victoria Home was opened; so the tree is over 60 years old. [...] May the present generation carry on the good traditions of their School Ancestors.
