As a former HYS teacher who had taught in the school for 20 years, I am deeply moved by the HYS style of DSS. The world is changing. In order to move with the times, the school has to keep refining its system and structure. However, amidst all the changes are some core values which remain unchanged. In advocating the HYS style of DSS, Heep Yunn has upheld the Christian principles of promoting holistic education with love. This is what every member of the school should take pride in. One of my most cherished memories of the school is when five Second Head Prefect candidates prayed in the Chapel one morning before their election. One of them came from a low-income family; one was from a well-off background; and a third was from a singleparent family. Despite their diverse social backgrounds, they all uttered the same prayer: "May God fill the campus with love. No matter who wins in the election, we will all share in her success." This beautiful scene has been deeply engraved in my mind all these years. Love is the only long-lasting thing that we can leave for the next generation. I am proud of Heep Yunn School! I am proud of the enthusiastic and dedicated advocates of the HYS style of DSS. I have a dream: When I have a granddaughter I will tell her, "Girl, go and study in Heep Yunn School! Grandpa found his dream there!" |
