7. | Does the inclusion of French and Spanish into the curriculum mean that HYS only caters for upper-class families?
|
HYS has no intention to discriminate against pupils with socio-economic needs. Spanish is the third most-widely used language in the world, and French follows closely behind it (at present, at least 10,000 terms is the English vocabulary originates from French). Students who are exposed to the culture of other countries through language can gain a much wider global view to give them a competitive edge and better education and career opportunities. A course that benefits our students should not be offered only students of a specific social class. Many key secondary schools on the mainland have already required their students to study a foreign language to better equip themselves. HYS believes that a beneficial curriculum should not be restricted to students from a particular social background. |
