This year, four of our Form 6 graduates achieved outstanding recognition as recipients of the HKSAR Government’s Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES), which aims to financially support students’ studies at prestigious universities overseas.
Hayli Chiu, Melody Lam, Jess Ma and Stephanie Yip went through a demanding and highly competitive application process involving essay writing and multiple interviews. In the end, they became one of just 58 awardees out of over 800 students who applied for the scholarship. On August 23, the four students received their awards at a presentation ceremony attended by the HKSAR Chief Executive, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.
The HKSES scholarship, which amounts to up to $250,000 a year, will cover all their tuition fees for three years of study in the UK. Hayli Chiu will go on to study a BSc in Environment and Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science; Melody Lam will study a BA in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Oxford; Jess Ma will study a BA in Human, Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge; Stephanie Yip will study an MA in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh.
Before they leave Hong Kong for the UK, all four of them will return to school to share their experiences and provide advice for students interested in applying to study overseas. Heep Yunn School would like to congratulate them on their outstanding academic dedication and we wish them all the best for their future studies in the UK.
