For the last Personal Growth Programme of their secondary school lives, our Form Five students went on an exotic and educational trip to Cambodia for four days and three nights in late September this year.

The first destination of their trip was a local orphanage, where they played different group games with the resident children, some of which prepared by Heep Yunn girls and others by the children themselves. Our students were impressed with the children’s creativity and hospitality. Their next stop was a local market, where they interacted with the locals and gained a better understanding of the Cambodian lifestyle, such as what clothes they wear and what kinds of food they eat.

During the visit to the Choeung Ek Killing Field and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, students dug deeper into the historical tragedy known as the Khmer Rouge, back when millions were killed under the dictatorial rule of Pol Pot. Learning about such horrors that happened 40 years ago was especially chilling, and this special experience has helped to remind our students to cherish what they have. After that, our students travelled to the stunning Angkor Wat and other surrounding structures to be inspired by the historical beauty of Cambodia. 

Without a doubt, to be immersed in the local culture learning more about the Kingdom was an interesting and rewarding experience. Although there will not be a next PGP for our F.5 students, it is certain that their last one is a trip to remember.
